The video above illustrates how this situation is a perfect example of the legal system persecuting a man for exercising his First Amendment right of freedom of speech. This Colorado Springs, CO man has been charged with committing a bias-motivated crime (aka. Hate Crime), disorderly conduct, harassment and littering.
What is this man’s horrible racial crime?
He posted flyers drawing attention to what he saw as an epidemic of corruption in his community. On the flyers, he referenced the Klu Klux Klan and the police department.
Messages on the signs included “Black Men Be Aware. You Are the Target,” “This Church Works for the KKK” and “This Church Identified as Devil’s for the KKK, the Police…etc.”
When asked why he put the signs up, Vincent Broughton replied, “because I want people to know how corrupt and crooked this town is….the police department, city council”…..etc.
The media’s reporting on the situation is the real crime. The framing of the story is a perfect example of how the media can spoon-feed any interpretation into the mind’s of the unsuspecting public-even if the interpretation is the complete opposite from reality a.k.a. Psychological Manipulation.
In this case, we have a BLACK MAN putting flyers up,with the headline of “HELP”, to WARN BLACK PEOPLE that they may be the targets of people who do not have their best interests in mind. Posting flyers in common areas has been going on literally since the beginning of our nation and is a common form of non-violent protest and education of the Public. Often times the posters and leaflets are the only form remaining where the People can communicate systemic abuses to each other. A beautiful example of Free Speech activity.
So, let’s see how the media, the mouthpiece of the establishment, handled this citizens exercising of his Rights.
Remember, this is a black man putting up flyers WARNING of black people being targeted for abuse and that he freely admits to placing the flyers and even included his phone number on some flyers to discuss the topic with anyone.
The news article is a classic hit piece designed to assassinate Mr. Broughton’s character and credibility. The article states:
“this is the case of the racist signs posted outside of Colorado Springs’ churches” (labeling as racist)
“this comes less than two weeks after the deadly church shooting at a historic African American church in South Carolina” (linking putting up posters to deadly shooting with racial motivations)
“this is the man who’s behind the hate posters plastered all over Colorado Springs” (making the case for the hate crime charge)
and..
“he could not explain why he targeted churches “ (making it seem like he is targeting churches and patrons for harm)
“at the end of the day he is a very deranged individual and he is seeking attention” (labeling the citizen as “crazy”)
Wow, a citizen volunteering his time, put up flyers which call out the local government for abuses (real or perceived) with the intent to communicate his views and provide a warning to his fellow community members. Then, the citizen is promptly charged with a racially motivated hate crime and his name is destroyed all over town.
The government is now arresting and charging citizens with crimes for exercising First Amendment rights which are clearly protected by our Constitution.
We all must speak out against these kinds of Constitutional abuses. If we do not, we will all be abused eventually, and will surely be faced with the same situation as Pastor Martin Niemöller during World War II where he wrote:
First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
What the government can do to the least of us, it can do to ALL OF US!!
